Description: In this fun, engaging class, students will express their imagination and exercise the building blocks of performing on stage while building stage presence, confidence, and self-esteem. Through improv games, team building exercises, and storytelling activities, students will begin to develop charisma and public speaking skills that are important for all youngsters, not just actors. NOTE: This is our only class that has observation days for parents. Up to two guests are invited to accompany each student to the first and last day of class to observe progress. All other days will follow Encore! Tulsa's standard closed class/rehearsal policies, as noted on the "Enroll Now" page.

Fundamentals of Acting

Description: Has your child taken an interest in acting? Or maybe they have had an enjoyable theatre experience at school or church and are interested in professional training? Whether your child is interested in performing onstage or onscreen, this class starts budding actors off on the right foot by introducing proper techniques and preventing bad habits. In this hands-on class, students will learn the fundamentals of voice, diction, projection, breath control, posture, charisma, stage presence and empathy as well as basic acting vocabulary such as the fourth wall, focal point, and blocking.

Description: Students will learn to think on their feet, trust their decisions, practice teamwork, develop listening skills, and release inhibitions in a fun, up-beat environment. Students will develop charisma, stage presence, and performance technique as they perform improv games and comedic scenes/monologues at each class. Strong improv skills are a must for all actors who wish to perform on stage or screen, but they also help people succeed at many other areas in life. This is a great class for actors who wish to work toward performing in an improv troupe, comedic plays/shows, etc.

Description: The voice and body are the tools of an actor, and it is important to keep them in tip-top-shape so that the tension an actor ever feels/shows is that of the character. This class focuses solely on the physical aspect of acting, understanding how an actor develops a character and tells a story with their body with proper technique. Each week, we will study a different area of how actor's use their bodies, including stage combat, relaxation, character development, and dance as well as methods such as the Alexander Technique.

Description: At Encore! Tulsa, so many of our shows include sword fights and epic battles, that we want to offer the proper training to make these roles available to more actors! With stage combat training on your resume, casting directors can rest at ease knowing that you will not only quickly learn combat choreography, but can execute it SAFELY. Stage combat training has different goals and techniques than, say, a self-defense class. We will teach you how to fall, punch, kick, and even sword fight that looks realistic onstage, but keeps you and your fellow actors safe and having fun!

Description: Due to the popularity of our Thursday night classes, we have added this class to combine elements of those classes and to accommodate more students. This class is designed for students who understand the fundamentals of theatre performance and are ready to hone their skills and seriously prepare for larger roles. Students will be assigned scenes and monologue to study, annotate, and perform each week, building a repertoire of characters and performance material. In addition, students will build their improv skills to develop charisma and strong stage presence, which are vital for actors who wish to be considered for lead/supporting roles in theatre productions.

The Audition Experience
Ages 7-11 & 12-18 / Level: All experience levels but some basic acting experience is helpful. We recommend actors who have no experience enroll in Fundamentals of Theatre or Comedy & Improv concurrently with this class, but it is not required.

Description: Auditioning is not acting. It requires a different attitude and approach. Auditioning for a project is its own art form that all actors must master if they expect to perform onstage or onscreen. This class will replicate an audition setting each week so students can exercise the necessary procedures before/during/after an audition and receive honest, professional feedback. Students will develop charisma, attitude, confidence, work ethic, and interview skills to help them become more attractive candidates to casting directors.

Description: Do you dream of performing on SNL or hosting your own talk show? Or maybe you just have a passion for making people laugh. We each have our own, unique charisma and sense of humor, so whether you look up to Jimmy Fallon, Kristen Wiig, or Jim Carey, this class helps you develop "your own funny." Challenging activities in improv, stand-up, and sketch will exercise students' abilities to think on their feet and trust their instincts as they perform the art of the comedy with flair and polished technique.

Description: Nothing can replace the experience of attending class in-person, but maybe you're looking to supplement your current training? Or you simply can't fit one of our classes into your current schedule and you want a flexible way to exercise your acting skills and get some feedback? Here's an alternative! Students will receive a weekly lesson and assignment, then send their performance videos for instructor feedback. BONUS: This class is a great way to practice self-tapes for submitting video auditions, and getting valuable feedback from a professional casting director!
