Auditions: CCF 2020

Directed by Joshua Branson Barker
Show Dates: April 17-19, 2020
Venue: Tulsa Little Theatre
Auditions: February 23
Rehearsals: Begin in March

Open to adults and youth of all ages. There is no fee to participate for those who are cast, including youth actors who are granted a scholarship to study and perform tuition-free! However, for youth actors who have little or no acting experience in a theatre production, we do have a Spring Weekly Acting Class, Introduction to Theatre Production: This is an excellent opportunity to participate in a professional-quality theatre production. Students will be assigned to a mentor performer from our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who will guide them through the rigorous processes of rehearsals, character development, and line memorization. They will also gain a thorough understanding of on-set etiquette, meeting director's expectations, accepting and following stage directions, taking blocking notes, effectively preparing for rehearsal, and demonstrating proper conduct onstage and off. Students will also be assigned an ensemble role, which they will get to perform in the production alongside professional and community actors. *Students who attend this class will have the opportunity to perform in our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. For more information about our Introduction to Theatre Production class, and our other Spring Weekly Acting Classes, click here!

By popular demand, Wonka’s back! But this time, bigger and better than ever! We’re bringing this sweet, updated production to the Tulsa Little Theatre. We’re seeking 40+ actors, dancers, and gymnasts for this spectacular production, so here’s how you can audition:

Auditions will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Actors will receive a time slot for a brief audition, then may be asked to stay longer or return later in the day for callbacks. Auditions will consist of a combination of cold reads, improv, and/or dance, depending on your particular skill set. You don’t need to rehearse anything in advance; we will give/teach you everything you need on the day of the audition. We’ll email you details in advance. Available roles are listed below.

If you are interested in auditioning, please follow these instructions:

AVAILABLE ROLES AS OF 2/9/20:

At this time, we are considering all ages— including older to play younger— for the roles of Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, and Violet Beauregarde.

OOMPA LOOMPAS (Youth actors of all ages/genders under 5'4.")- The playful, silly, and quirky workers in Willy Wonka's factory. In addition to FEATURED OOMPA LOOMPAS with acting experience and some dialogue, we are also looking to cast DANCING OOMPA LOOMPAS and STUNT OOMPA LOOMPAS. Some Oompa Loompas might also understudy the roles of Charlie, Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike.

CHARLIE BUCKET - A kind, innocent, selfless boy who maintains his cheerful attitude despite his poor situation. He lives in poverty with his mother, father, and four grandparents in a tiny home.  Seeking a well-trained actor who has the experience, stamina, and stage presence in order handle the stage time.

GRANDPA JOE (Adult Male, Age 50's-70's) - The cheerful and silly Grandpa Joe is Charlie's inspiration for never losing hope. Must have good comedic timing and physical comedy skills, but also able to play Grandpa Joe in a sweet, sincere way. British or Cockney accent.

VERUCA SALT - A wealthy, class-conscious, spoiled brat from England. Seeking an experienced, well-trained actress who is capable of handling the obnoxious role with grace and impeccable comedic timing. British RP accent.

MR(S). SALT (Adult) - Veruca’s father/mother. He is a wealthy and respectable businessman who buys his way out of problems. He cowers to his bratty daughter and caters to her every desire. British RP accent.

MIKE TEAVEE - This loud, obnoxious, but highly-intelligent kid is addicted to video games and all his techno gadgets. He has a sour, hard-to-please attitude throughout the factory tour. Must have a powerful voice and strong stage presence. No accent required, but we might be interested in seeing New York, Jersey, or Brooklyn accents.

MRS. TEAVEE (Adult, but may consider mature teens) - Mike’s Mother. The ideal housewife and mother. Think of old-fashioned TV moms (June Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver; Marion Cunningham in Happy Days; or Carol Brady in The Brady Bunch), but with more of an eccentric, artificially sweet image that could crumble into hysteria at any minute. Comedic timing and strong stage presence a must. No accent required, but we might be interested in seeing New York, Jersey, or Brooklyn accents.

VIOLET BEAUREGARDE - Gum chewer extraordinaire from a blue-collar family. She is extremely competitive, talented, and charismatic with nothing but 1st place trophies and ribbons from county fairs and other competitions. Thick Texas/Southern accent. If you can play a portable musical instrument (especially guitar, banjo, fiddle, accordion, or harmonica), or have another unique and impressive talent (yodeling, lassoing, etc.), please note this in your registration form. We may ask you to perform a country-style song or your other talent at your audition.

MRS. BEAUREGARDE (Adult, but may consider mature teens.) - Violet's energetic stage mom and #1 Fan from the blue-collar Beauregarde family. She is the type of mother who acts/looks more like an older sister than a mother. She and Violet look, talk, and act alike, much to Violet's chagrin. Comedic timing/experience a must. Thick Texas/Southern accent.

AUGUSTUS GLOOP - Augustus is the overachieving eater who represents the evils of eating too much. He is coddled by his mother and prone to tears and childish temper tantrums if he doesn't have food. German accent.

MR(S). GLOOP (Adult) - Augustus’ mother/father who coddles her/his son and has overindulged him with food. Personality is larger than life with an absurd German accent. Comedic timing a must.

MR. BUCKET (Adult, but may consider mature teens) - Charlie's father. A poor man who loves his family and works hard to provide for them. He does his best to be optimistic for his son. Will consider American, British, or Cockney accents.

MRS. BUCKET (Adult, but may consider mature teens.) - Charlie's mother. A kind, sweet woman who loves her family. Will consider American, British, or Cockney accents.

NEWS ANCHOR (Adult) - We're seeking a Ron Burgundy impersonator with a strong voice and stage presence and impeccable comedic timing.

NEWS REPORTERS (Adult, but may consider mature teens.) - The reporters who announce the Golden Ticket winners throughout the show. Great facial expressions, reacting to the bratty children and their obnoxious parents. Reporters may have American, New York, British RP, or German accents.

GRANDPA GEORGE, GRANDMA GEORGINA, and GRANDMA JOSEPHINA (Adult/Teen to play older with comical makeup/costume.) - Quirky, comedic actors to play Charlie's bed-ridden grandparents. Must be extremely animated and energetic with their voice, facial expressions, and gestures, since they are confined to a bed. Will consider American, British, or Cockney accents.

CANDY MAN (Adult/Teen Male) - The cheerful and energetic owner of the local candy store. British or Cockney accent preferred.

FEATURED CANDY STORE CUSTOMERS (All ages/genders) - Customers who LOVE candy and are dying to win a Golden Ticket to tour Wonka's factory.
